The climate of Minot (North Dakota
- United States of America)
Minot is a medium sized city located centrally in the northern
part of North Dakota. Minot is located in Ward County in the vicinity
of the Souris River. The city was founded at the end of the 19th
century with the coming of the Northern Pacific Railway. During the
prohibition in the 1920s the city was known as Little Chicago. Just
outside the city the Air Force Base can be found, this is also the
biggest employer of the city.
Minot has a moderate continental climate with cold and long winters
and short but warm summers. During the winter temperatures hardly rise
above freezing point. Summers may be warm, temperatures may rise above
30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). However, during the night
temperatures drop to 15-20 degrees Celsius (59-68 degrees Fahrenheit).
Minot is located in Tornado Alley.
