The climate of Rhode Island (United States of America)
The state of Rhode Island is located in the northeastern part of the United States. Despite its name, most of Rhode Island is located on the mainland of the United States. However, several islands can be found in the state. The official name of the state is The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. However, this name is hardly ever used. Despite its location on the Atlantic Ocean Rhode Island has a continental climate with warm and wet summers and cold winters. Rhode Island gets 1,100-1,200 millimeters of annual precipitation. Precipitation is quite evenly spread out over the year. During the winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow. Although long term average precipitation figures show a stable pattern there may be large differences in precipitation figures. During some months precipitation figures are much lower. During the summer when depressions are supplied from the south large amounts of rain may fall in a relatively short period of time. During the winter when dry air is
