The climate of Johnson City (Tennessee
- United States of America)
Johnson City is located in the northeastern part of the state of
Tennessee in the vicinity of the borders with the states of North
Carolina and Virginia. Johnson City was founded during the second part
of the 19th century as a train station. Nowadays it is a medium sized
city. West of the city the Blue Ridge Mountains can be found. The
highest point in this mountain ridge is Roan Mountain with an altitude
of 1,916 meters. The Nolichucky River flows just outside the city.
Johnson City has a warm maritime climate with characteristics of a
warm continental climate. Winters are cold. During the winter longer
periods with subzero temperatures during the night are not uncommon.
Summers are pleasantly warm to hot with temperatures exceeding 30
degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Precipitation is quite evenly
spread out over the year. During the winter precipitation may fall in
the form of sleet or snow.
