Eau Claire is located centrally in the western part of the state of
Wisconsin on the banks of the Chippewa River. The city was named after
this river; Eau Claire means clear water. The University of
Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Chippewa Valley Technical College and several
annexes of other universities are situated here.
Eau Claire has a moderate continental climate with cold winters and
pleasantly warm summers. Winters are cold and long. During the summer
temperatures may reach tropical values. During periods with high
temperatures humidity figures may be high as well.
